Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy of teaching is rooted in my years of experience outside of teaching or  classroom. When I stop to examine on my understanding of teaching and learning, I believe that my role of teacher is rooted in three key beliefs:
  • Learning is best done when it is rooted in personal meaning
  • Students internalize lessons at a much deeper level when they find the lesson themselves
  • We learn best to do, by doing.
To accomplish this, I have enjoyed applying a wide variety of strategies based on essential educational principles encompassing cognitive functioning, learning theory, cultural and learning style diversity, instructional planning and imbedded formative assessment.

As a result, I aim to teach with clarity, passion, compassion, and humor to  respect my students by honoring their humanity through strong relationships built in an intentional way, through constant reinforcement. Honoring their time by creating plans designed to engage them through a variety of mediums, at a deep depth of knowledge. Honoring their intelligence by holding them to a consistently high standard that recogonizes their ability to grow, improve and thrive.
